Catholic Social Teaching
Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is the Church’s guidance on how we live our faith by caring for others and God’s world. It teaches us to love our neighbour, to stand up for fairness and dignity, and to look after the most vulnerable. At our school, Catholic Social Teaching helps children understand that their choices and actions matter, encouraging them to be kind, respectful, and responsible members of school family and the wider community.
At the beginning of each half term, we explore a pillar of CST. We start with an introductory Collective Worship and this is followed up with a lesson in class.
We support a range of charities including Macmillan Cancer, our St Monica’s Catholic School Foodbank and other charities that are brought to our attention, for example the orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo, CAFOD and NSPCC.
Every year, during Lent, the whole school makes a pilgrimage to the food bank at St Monica’s Church. The children gift whatever they can afford in the way of food for our local community who rely so much on this invaluable resource. It is a powerful witness to God’s love.
At our annual Harvest Festival, children bring cash donations which the volunteers use to buy food. Their foodbank is available to everyone every Monday morning.
