70th anniversary celebrations

On Saturday 14th September we had an “open-house” event at School to celebrate our 70th anniversary. People came from far and wide to visit the school, sit and reminisce, find their name in the original admissions books and sample some of the delicious food which had been provided by our parents.

There have only been four Headteachers at the school since its opening in 1954. Mr Moffat was Headteacher until 1971 and his daughter Carmel by coincidence was over from Canada and joined us with her cousin Fr John Moffat. Miss Borrett took over until 1995 and we were delighted she came too. She has a sharp memory and could recall facts and faces with ease! “You spent a lot of time outside my office,” she told one surprised past pupil in his forties!! Mr Getley was Headteacher until 2006 and sadly passed away in 2007. His son Rob who used to work at St Monica’s as a teacher has followed in his dad’s footsteps and is now also a Headteacher! Mrs Baptiste is the fourth Headteacher and has been in post since 2006. This was the beginning of our year of celebrations. We are looking forward to working with Michelle Meola mural artist and a visit from Bishop John Sherrington.
